Too Much of a Good Thing


I love, love, LOVE berry season.  Strawberries.  Blueberries.  Raspberries.  Cherries.  YUM!  I call them God’s candy!

But these little “sweeties” can be a bit dangerous for me.  Part of my eating plan during this journey has been to look carefully at package serving sizes.  And then eat within those boundaries.

But summer fruit does not come in neatly portioned 100 cal. packs or in a box with nutritional info and serving sizes on the box.  Plus, we buy our berries by the flat full, so there are plenty around to snack on.  I’m trying to be more deliberate about portioning my snack out (I have these cute and cheery yellow melamine bowls in different cup measurements) instead of just grabbing and snacking by the handful.  This is after consuming pounds and pounds of blueberries and cherries! I’ve had a bellyache on more than one occasion from my fruit over-indulgences!

It is hard though, because this glorious season only lasts a short while, so I’m wanting to take advantage.  I have even chosen to forego my supper on a few occassions these past few weeks, so that I could enjoy these treats (usually along with some nuts for protein) instead.

I’ll keep you updated on how I do with my goal of moderation. 🙂



  1. When you’re counting calories, I can see how difficult it is to stop eating those blues. I mean, you’re talking to a fellow blueberry lover here…did you see my crazy, fanatical blueberry post?

    Whatever you don’t eat, make sure you freeze so you can enjoy them later on in the year!
